Report to recommend ESB sale of power plants

A REPORT into the energy market in Ireland is expected to recommend the sale of some of the ESB’s power plants when it is published later this year.

Consultants Deloitte & Touche were requested to extend the report into the ESB to include the entire energy sector before Christmas by Natural Resources Minister& Noel Dempsey.

That has delayed publication of its initial findings, which are understood to contain a key recommendation that the ESB be obliged to sell some power stations to the private sector to create greater competition in the market.
