O2 claims 91,000 new customers over Christmas

O2, the country’s second largest mobile phone operator, said yesterday that it signed up 91,000 new customers over the Christmas trading period.

The company said its total subscriber base had risen to 1.52 million. In the three months to the end of December, 2004, O2 added 86,000 pre-paid customers and 5,000 bill pay users. The company said its customer base was 11% ahead of the same quarter in 2003.

The figures confirm that O2 was the winner of the Christmas sales battle with Meteor and Vodafone. Over the same three months Vodafone added 39,000 customers and Meteor 90,000.
