THE chairman of the Revenue Commissioners says there is no moral justification for tax evasion as Irish people pay the lowest proportion of tax in the European Union.

Frank Daly said that while some people may have justified evading paying the taxman in the past it was unacceptable and that the Revenue would track down cheats.

He said Ireland’s tax to gross domestic product (GDP) ratio was just 28.6% compared to the average tax-GDP ratio of 40.4%.
