Slow rise in British consumer prices

British consumer prices increased last month at the slowest pace since April as retailers offered bigger discounts on furniture and furnishings and food prices declined.

Consumer prices rose 1.4% in July from a year ago, down from 1.6% the month before, the government statistics office in London said. Prices fell 0.3% in the month, the biggest decline since January and following June’s 0.1% drop.
