MORE than 1,500 workers at FLS Aerospace, the former Team Aer Lingus aircraft maintenance operation at Dublin airport, were given a stay of execution yesterday when the company announced 420 job losses in Britain.

But the company signalled potential job cuts in the future by saying its loss-making Dublin operation still needed “significant change, including cost savings.”

Management briefed unions yesterday with details of the company’s latest round of cost-cutting, which will see almost 10% of the Danish-owned firm’s total British and Ireland workforce laid off. Employees feared up to 150 jobs losses in Dublin but were surprised to hear jobs were instead to be sacrificed at FLS sites at London’s Stansted airport and Manchester.
