Mandate has called for significant flat rate pay increases to be included in the second phase of the national agreement, Sustaining Progress.

The union said the increases were necessary in order to end the growing number of the country’s workforce who are living below the poverty line.

Brendan Archbold, Mandate’s national official explained that in 2001 almost one in five people living in income poverty in Ireland were working for a living.
