THE ISEQ index rose for a third consecutive day, gaining 44.48 points to close at 6417.53, a new high.

The main banks and Elan led the advance once again.

AIB advanced to 15.55, while Bank of Ireland added 6c with 2.2 million shares changing hands. Anglo Irish Bank jumped 27c to 19.17.
