China’s economy overtakes Britain’s

The British economy showed signs of recovery despite posting its worst annual performance since 1992, permitting China to overtake it.

Estimates from the Office for National Statistics showed gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.8% last year - down from 3.2% in 2004 and well below Chancellor Gordon Brown’s prediction of 3% to 3.5% a year ago.
