Shares end the week down

SHARES in Dublin ended the week down, in line with a bad day across the world’s markets. Continued concerns of spiraling oil prices and the release of disappointing employment data from the US contributed to the ISEQ’s 62.90 point loss at 5240.07.

Investor concern in the US is not good news for construction giant CRH who fell 62c to €18.85. Elan’s recent bad run continued as the pharmaceutical company tumbled €1.60 to €14.30, despite any significant news flow on the company but in line with the recent negative trend.

The banks did not get off lightly either as AIB and Bank of Ireland dropped 11c and 16c respectively. Shares in Ryanair fell 12c as competitor CityJet posted positive figures in July but warned of rising costs. ICG would have similar concerns and a report on negative sea passenger numbers did little to ease the pain. It fell 7c to €9.30.
