German economy disappoints

GERMANY’S economic performance was disappointing in the first three months of this year, but Europe’s biggest economy is on course to do better in the second quarter, a senior official said in an interview yesterday.

The comments by Economics and Labour Minister Wolfgang Clement came as the government prepares a regular update to its growth forecasts, to be presented on Friday.
