Costs make Shannon ‘unviable’

THE chairman of Shannon Airport Authority Pat Shanahan has said “the existing cost structure makes Shannon unviable in its present form and radical restructuring is essential to ensure the future viability of our airport”.

The turnaround in the airport’s finances in 2005 can be attributed to the increased activity by Ryanair and the high levels of military traffic operating through Shannon which is unpredictable and, from past experience, unlikely to continue at current levels, he said.
