Strong performance from financials

SHARES in Dublin jumped 73.36 points yesterday to close at 5449.45, the highest the ISEQ index has been since April of this year.

The main mover of the day was Elan, which reached as high as €21.50 during trading and closed at €20.89, €1.44 stronger. The main financial stocks also finished higher. Allied Irish Bank added 12c to €12.52, Bank of Ireland was 9c firmer at €10.91, while Anglo-Irish strengthened to €12.85. Irish Life & Permanent was 12c up at €12.55.

Construction stock Kingspan advanced 13c to €4.98.
