FRESH fears have arisen in Mallow that Dairygold’s milk processing plant in the town will be eventually closed despite yesterday’s announcement by the co-op that it is to remain open for the seasonal production of whole milk powder.

Butter production at the plant is to cease with the loss of some thirty jobs under the latest phase of the co-op’s restructuring programme.

Dairygold said it will concentrate on milk powder production at the Mallow plant during the peak milk supply season.
