Ireland leads in ICT productivity

Ireland recorded the biggest increases in labour productivity from information and communications technology (ICT) companies between 1996 and 2002, according to a new survey.

The Economist Intelligence Unit report found Ireland, along with Nordic countries, led Europe in terms of key indicators of productivity.

But the Economist also found Ireland failed to match the Nordic countries in its development of ICT infrastructure. However, it said Ireland’s strong economic performance was down to foreign direct investment and that other factors had compensated for its moderate level of ICT development.
