BRITISH stocks advanced for the first day in four yesterday.

FTSE making recovery

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index rose 16.7, or 0.4%, to 4800.30, with more than two shares gaining for every one that fell. The FTSE All-Share Index added 0.4% to 2410.15.

The FTSE 100 pared an earlier gain of as much as 0.6%.
