Government being distracted from long-term planning, says AIB chief

THE Government is being distracted from long-term planning and policy formation by having to run everything from planes, trains and buses to greyhound tracks, according to AIB chief executive Michael Buckley.

The AIB CEO said yesterday Government is involved in too many enterprises that are not its business.

“It is agile government that has helped to bring us to where we are today, but it is difficult for a government to be agile when they have too many things going on,” he told delegates at the annual UCC Commerce Conference: Ireland’s Economic Odyssey; What opportunities and challenges does the future hold?
