A real threat is hanging over the future of European Union funding for the Common Agricultural Policy, a member of the European Parliament has warned.

Máiréad McGuinness said several EU countries including Germany, France, the Netherlands and Britain are questioning their contribution to the EU budget.

These member states take the view that community spending on agriculture should not exceed 1%, despite enlargement and an October 2002 agreement on the ceiling for agriculture expenditure.
