ONE of the most interesting observations the Central Bank made when it launched the 2006 annual report mid-week was that the fundamentals of the economy are still sound.

Obvious factors that support such a view include strong population growth, an economy close to full employment and rising incomes.

Unemployment is still close to historic lows although it is beginning to tick up somewhat.
