Xi warns Trump China and US could 'come into conflict' if Taiwan issue mishandled

US President Donald Trump began his trip to Beijing on Thursday by telling Xi Jinping, “it’s an honour to be your friend,” even as his Chinese counterpart offered a cautionary warning about avoiding a possible clash between the two nations.

Xi Jinping has told Mr Trump their countries could come into conflict if the issue over self-ruled Taiwan claimed by Beijing is mishandled, Chinese state media said.
