Swiss bar where 40 died in blaze ‘last had fire safety check in 2019’

Fire safety inspections had not been carried out for several years at the bar where a deadly blaze broke out during a New Year’s Eve party, Swiss authorities said.

Investigators have said they believe sparkling candles on champagne bottles ignited the fire at Le Constellation in the resort of Crans-Montana when they came too close to the ceiling.
