United Nations (UN) secretary-general has said that he is "deeply alarmed" by the imposition of a "complete siege" on the territory of Gaza following Hamas' assault on Israel.

Speaking from the UN’s headquarters in New York, António Guterres called for an end to the "vicious circle of bloodshed, hatred and polarisation."
