Morocco earthquake death toll surpasses 1,000, with 1,200 injured

Morocco’s National Seismic Monitoring and Alert Network say the quake measured 7 on the Richter scale

A powerful earthquake that struck Morocco late on Friday night killed at least 1,000 people, the country’s Interior Ministry said. The death toll is likely to climb further. 

Around 1,200 people were injured in the quake, 721 of whom are being treated for serious injuries in hospital.
