States of emergency declared as US braces for Hurricane Sally

Hurricane Sally – one of four storms churning simultaneously in the Atlantic – closed in on the US Gulf Coast on Monday as governors declared states of emergency.

With Sally bringing rapidly strengthening winds of at least 100mph and heavy rain, forecasters have warned of “potentially historic” flooding.
