US and Syrian war planes come close to battle

US and Syrian war planes have come close to engaging in a mid-air battle.

The US scrambled a number of F-22 fighters after American special operations soldiers came under fire from Syrian government jets.

The Penatagon says the incident happened over the city of Hasaka on Thursday.

American jets came within 1,600 metres of the two Syrian fighters, which left the Hasaka area as the US aircraft arrived.
