Delta grounds flights around the world after systems problems

2.50pm: Delta Airlines has said its services are returning to normal this afternoon.

It is after a power cut grounded all the company's planes worldwide.

The problem in Atlanta in the United States affected its computer systems for three hours.

Two flights from Dublin to Atlanta and New York were delayed for a couple of hours - however Dublin Airport has said they are now due to depart this afternoon.

Delays and cancellations continue and passangers are advised to check the airlines website before travelling to the airport.

Earlier: Delta Airlines has said it is has grounded flights after experiencing unspecified systems issues.

Confirmation of the troubles came in tweets to its customers, but the airline declined to immediately comment.

A typical response to Delta's customers complaining about their service was: "Our systems are down everywhere. Hopefully it won't be much longer."

One flight from Dublin Airport to Atlanta has already been delayed with another flight to New York from Dublin potentially affected.

Delta serves nearly 180 million customers a year, employing over 80,000 people, according to its website.
