Man fatally stabbed in UK café attack

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death at a cafe.

The 48-year-old was knifed at the restaurant in Kilburn High Road, north London, at around 7pm on Monday, and was taken to hospital but died just over an hour later. His family have been told.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is being held at a police station in north London, Scotland Yard said.

Detectives know who the victim is, but formal identification has not yet taken place.

Local reports suggested that the attack had taken place at Efe's cafe.

Manager of the nearby Good Ship John McCooke said three of his staff had seen the attack.

He said: "A young guy stabbed the owner, a couple of pensioners tried to fight him off and one of them was covered in blood. But the guy pulled the shutters of the shop down and was in there alone with the victim."

Property manager at Cjon Properties Osman Macci was told by a colleague that the weapon was a machete.

He said: "Something like this, literally three doors down, is a shock. You hear things on the news but you don't expect it in your neighbourhood. My father had a shop here for 35 years, and I've been here for coming up for eight years and I've never seen an incident."
