Rape being used as payment for soldiers in South Sudan

The United Nations has described South Sudan as one of the most horrendous human rights situations in the world.

The UN has said the South Sudanese army has reached an agreement with armed militias - to allow fighters rape women as payment for their services.

It is said to be on the basis of - do what you can - take what you can.

The details are contained in a new report from the UN's Rights office.

1,300 documented rape cases have been recorded in a UN investigation between April and September 2015.

In one incident, it is reported soldiers argued over whether or not to rape a six-year-old girl and ended up shooting her.

UN human rights chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said the report was just a ‘snapshot of the real total’.
