Strike paralyses Belgian transport

Trade unions in Belgium are capping a month of industrial action against government austerity policies with a general strike which has paralysed air and rail traffic and left companies throughout the country idle.

Today’s strike is targeting measures by the nation’s business-friendly government to cut into employees’ income, extend working time and restrict social services.
