Ebola human drug trials planned for West Africa

An international humanitarian group is planning to host clinical trials in three Ebola treatment centres in West Africa to speed up the search for a specific treatment for the deadly virus.

Doctors Without Borders said the separate trials will be led by three different research partners and involve the UN World Health Organisation and health officials in affected countries.

The group said the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research will lead one in Gueckedou, Guinea.

The Antwerp Institute of Tropical Medicine will lead another trial at the Donka Ebola centre in Conakry, Guinea, and the University of Oxford will lead the third trial at a site that has not yet been determined, the group said.
