Court supports France's ban on Burqas

The European Court of Human Rights has upheld France's controversial ban on Burqas.

Opponents of the law said the ban on the full-face veil worn by many devout Muslim women is "degrading", and imposes Catholic values on religious minorities.

The ban has been in place since 2011 and can see women fined up to €150 for wearing Burqas.

Belgium is the only other EU country which imposes a similar ban, but similar measures are being considered in Italy and the Netherlands.
