Obama pays tribute to D-Day veterans
US president Barack Obama has said the American commitment to liberty which is “written in blood” on the beaches of Normandy endures with a new generation.
Mr Obama joined other leaders in honouring the legacy of Second World War veterans during a visit to France’s Omaha Beach to mark 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.

He said a new generation of Americans are showing their commitment to the cause of freedom.
The US president’s remarks were made at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, where nearly 10,000 are buried.
Before he spoke, Mr Obama met with veterans of Normandy as well as those who have served since the attacks on the US on September 11, 2001.

He told the D-Day veterans that their legacy is in good hands.
