Snowden invited to give evidence on surveillance to EU committee

Edward Snowden has been invited to give evidence to MEPs about American surveillance of European internet users.

Politicians want the former NSA contractor to give evidence to a European committee via videolink from Russia.

MEPs want to find out how much access the United States has to the internet habits of European citizens.

There have also been calls for the European Commission to help the whistleblower receive political asylum within the EU.
