Turkey recalls Egypt ambassador

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said its ambassador to Egypt is returning to Ankara today after both countries recalled their envoys following the violent crackdown on supporters of ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi.

Turkey’s Islamic-based government had strongly backed Mr Morsi as an example for the Arab world of a democratically elected pro-Islamic leader and has strongly criticised his overthrow on July 3.
