Ek Tha Tiger star will stand trial for homicide
Indian movie star Salman Khan is set to face trial next month on a homicide charge for his alleged involvement in a fatal road accident more than 10 years ago.
The star is known for films such as Ek Tha Tiger, scenes for which were shot in Ireland.
One man was killed and another four were injured when Khan allegedly rammed his car into a group of homeless people sleeping on a Mumbai pavement in September 2002.
Abha Singh, a lawyer involved in the case, said the court in Mumbai had also charged Khan with negligent driving.
Khan has pleaded not guilty. The trial is scheduled to begin August 19.
The actor could face up to 10 years in jail if convicted of the homicide charge.
The 47-year-old, one of Bollywood’s most popular stars, has acted in about 90 Hindi-language films in his 25-year career.
