Learner driver in police car chase on way to test

A learner driver in the UK was involved in a 70mph police car chase on the way to take his driving test.

Mitchell Gough, 24, raced around in his BMW car for eight minutes before crashing the vehicle after "panicking", a court heard.

His lawyer Graham Wallis insisted his client was "foolish" to drive to his test alone on April 11.

He said: "He was very anxious to take his test. When he was stopped he made a decision which was totally out of character - it is baffling that he behaved this way."

Gough, of Gloucester, south west England, admitted dangerous driving, failing to stop and related charges and was given a six-month suspended jail sentence, as well as a 30-month road ban and a £1,400 fines and costs bill.
