Death toll rises to 290 after Bangladesh building collapse
Crews bored deeper into the wreckage of a collapsed garment-factory building in Bangladesh today, hoping for miracle rescues which would stop the death toll rising much higher.
Brigadier General Mohammed Siddiqul Alam Shikder, who is overseeing the rescue operation, said the death toll at the Rana Plaza building in the capital, Dhaka, had reached 290, and that 2,200 people have been rescued.
