Suspected burglar calls police to report 'another burglar'

An alleged burglar has been arrested after phoning the police when he thought he heard another burglar.

Marius Ionescu, 31, was detained by police in Romania for attempted burglary after calling the emergency services while he was reportedly breaking into a house because he heard a strange noise which spooked him so much he hid under a bed.

Police spokesperson Mihaela Straub said: "He already has a criminal record for similar break-ins, and given his nervous disposition, he probably should look for another job.

"He's likely to have a lot of time inside jail to consider things."

She concluded the noise was "probably just the family cat".
