Mandela's wife attends service of drag death taxi driver
The wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela has attended a memorial service for a man who died in police custody after being dragged from a police vehicle in an incident that was filmed by onlookers.
Several hundred people gathered at a stadium to remember Mido Macia, a taxi driver from Mozambique who died last week.
The event was held in the Daveyton township east of Johannesburg, where Mr Macia was detained by police.
Mr Mandelaās wife, Graca Machel, is the widow of former Mozambican president Samora Machel.
She criticised police conduct in Mr Maciaās death, saying officers are supposed to protect South Africans from violent crime. She said South Africa faces ābig troubleā.
Eight police officers have been charged with murder over Mr Maciaās death. Their bail application was postponed to Friday.
