Islamists claim poll victory in Egypt

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood says a narrow majority of those who voted in the first round of a referendum on a proposed Islamist-backed constitution have approved the document.

An official tweet by the Brotherhood early today said the group’s tallies show nearly 57% of voters said “yes” to the disputed charter, while about 43% voted ’no’.
