Wooden log 'can predict lottery numbers'

A large log found in Cambodia has attracted thousands of visitors who think it can predict winning lottery numbers.

As many as 5,000 people have flocked to see the fallen tree, which was dug out of a pond in the western Pursat province, Prey Yeang, and people now believe it has healing powers and can help others win money after some locals who touched the wood won cash on the lottery.

Village chief Hun Nov said: “They believe the log has magical powers.

“At least one hundred people a day visit the log to ask for lottery numbers and to cure their illnesses.

“They believe in superstition.”

Some visitors to the log have even been rubbing talcum powder into the wood in an attempt to see lottery numbers, and others have been drinking from a pond in an attempt to cure their illnesses.

Hun is not sure whether the log possesses any special powers, but he admits the local authorities don't have any power to stop people believing it does.
