Russian nationalist urges month-long news detox
The leader of a Russian nationalist party wants the country to go news-free for a whole month.
Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, wants every journalist in the country to take a four-week holiday and relieve the "news pressure" on the public.
While addressing the State Duma, he said: "The LDPR party proposes that all Russian media bosses give their employees a one-month vacation, for example, from July 15 to Aug 15. The incessant news machine should be stopped."
What's more, he revealed the State Duma had recently rejected a proposal to only allow 20% of negative news on televised news programmes.
