Former PM Brown gives evidence at Leveson inquiry
Former Labour prime minister Gordon Brown today criticised newspaper coverage of UK involvement in Afghanistan.
Mr Brown told an inquiry into press standards how âone newspaper in particularâ had not taken on âdifficult issuesâ but adopted the line that he âdid not careâ about British troops.
He was speaking while giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry in London.
âWhat I think one newspaper in particular decided to do is it didnât want to take on the difficult issues,â he said.
âIt reduced coverage to âwe were doing something wrongâ.â
He added: âThe whole focus of their coverage was not what we had done ... but that I personally did not care about our troops.â
