UN patrols in Syria 'targeted by heavy weapons'

United Nations patrols in Syria are being deliberately targeted with heavy weapons and armour-piercing ammunition, the world body’s secretary general said.

According to a UN official, Ban Ki-moon also told the private Security Council meeting last night of repeated instances of firing close to patrols, apparently to force them to withdraw.
