Hunter mistakes girlfriend for wild hog…and shoots her

A US hunter accidentally shot his girlfriend after mistaking her for a wild hog.

According to police, Steve Egan was hunting from his tent in Flagler County when he thought he heard his target so he took a shot at it which went straight through both of his girlfriend Lisa Simmons' legs, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Steve insisted he fired his 0.30-calibre rifle because he saw the real animal just minutes before he mistakenly shot Lisa, who has been recovering after she was airlifted to hospital following the incident.

No charges have been filed.
