Police smash car window to save toy dog

Police in the UK broke into a car to save a £4.50 toy dog.

The officials in Nottinghamshire mistook the King Charles Spaniel toy for a real pooch after a member of the public reported a canine had been left in the motor in temperatures up to 18°C.

Gordon Williams returned to find his car window had been smashed and a note on the vehicle stating: " Smashed your window re concern for animal on rear seat."

He said: "I guess they felt like idiots. He'd been living quite happily on the car's back seat. But I've decided he will be safer sleeping on a chair in my kitchen."

The police have agreed to pay £180 to the widower so that he can replace his window.
