Six held over Bristol airport protest

Six people have been arrested at an airport in Britain after paint was thrown inside the terminal building.

Police were called to Bristol Airport at lunchtime yesterday, receiving reports of a “large demonstration”.

An airport spokeswoman said paint was thrown over the check-in area.

Officers arrested six people on suspicion of causing criminal damage and another was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

Chief Inspector Paul Mogg said: “We respect the right to peaceful protest and are here to ensure the safety of the public.

“However, when incidents of this nature affect members of the public going about their daily business or property is damaged action will be taken to bring those responsible to justice.

“Officers have worked closely with airport staff today to minimise disruption and I would like to offer my thanks to those members of the public affected for their patience.”

It is understood that those arrested were protesting about animal transportation which officials denied takes place at the airport.
