China and Russia veto UN resolution on Syria

China and Russia have vetoed a UN Security Council resolution backing calls for Syria's President Bashr-al Assad to stand down.

The two permanent members of the council rejected the draft resolution despite strong condemnation by US President Barack Obama of the violence.
