A Taiwanese city is offering lottery tickets to people who clean up dog poo.

The scheme has been launched in New Taipei City in an attempt to clean up the streets, and more than 4,000 people have already collected 14,500 bags of pooch poo.

The initiative – which enables people to swap a bag of dog poo for a lottery ticket – has already halved the amount of canine mess on the streets.

A woman in her 50s won the top prize so far when she was awarded a gold bar worth €1,700.
