Thieves break in to steal cigarettes - from jail

Thieves broke into a UK jail to steal £8,000 worth of cigarettes.

The group climbed over a fence at Kirkham Prison, Lancashire, and stole cases of the items from a workshop, where supplies are kept for prisoners, some of which work in the building during the day.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Normally the inmates can’t wait to get OUT of here... so having the opposite happen has caused much mirth.

“One theory is it was an inside job. At night security is pretty non-existent. There are not enough prison officers to check the whole perimeter."
