Police officer sues force over fear of sirens

A former UK police officer is suing one force for £500,000 over a fear of sirens.

Louise McGarva has filed the lawsuit against the Lothian and Borders force because she claims a training exercise left her scared of sirens and police cars after she was crushed in a former hospital building.

The 35-year-old former officer - who retired on grounds of ill-health - alleges she suffered from post-traumatic stress after taking part in the mock riot.

Her lawyers claim instructors attacked officers with “baseball bats, long batons and martial arts”, and used “excessive” force.

However, police deny the training course turned into a real-life riot.
